Her journey to becoming one of the AFLW's premier players was not an easy one, but through sheer determination and unwavering dedication to her craft, she earned her well-deserved reputation. Growing up as a gifted netballer, Libby never imagined herself playing football. It wasn't until the eve of the AFLW's inception when her friend Daisy Pearce presented her with a chance opportunity that she decided to give it a try. With no prior experience in kicking a football or playing the game, Libby's rise to the top of Australian Rules Football has been nothing short of remarkable.
Throughout her career, Libby has achieved numerous accolades, including being named in multiple All-Australian teams, playing pivotal roles in two premiership teams, and becoming the first Victorian Player to reach 50 & 75 games respectively in AFLW history. She began her journey with the Western Bulldogs for the first three seasons, followed by five seasons with the Melbourne Football Club, and now proudly calls the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos her home.
On and off the field, Libby embodies the essence of a true team player. Her natural leadership qualities, combined with her drive and competitive spirit, make her a force to be reckoned with. She is relatable, energetic, and always generous with her time. Libby never strays from her core values and beliefs.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Libby has pursued a career in physiotherapy, specializing in disability and working in hospital wards. Moreover, she has emerged as a rising star in the media landscape, holding various roles such as co-hosting, providing expert commentary, football analysis, boundary riding, and even contributing as a print columnist. Her expertise and passion for the game have earned her a prominent role within the 3AW Football Team for the 2023 AFL (Men's) season, where she will serve as a Boundary Rider and provide expert analysis 'Around the Grounds'.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Libby is passionate about inspiring young girls and women to get involved in sports. She believes that sports not only provide a platform for fun and improvement of health and well-being but also foster the development of valuable life skills.
In summary, Libby Birch's journey as an AFLW player, media talent, and physiotherapist is a testament to her unwavering commitment and undeniable talent.
